Halophyte is a plant which can grow in a salty environment, such as mudflat, estuaries, etc. They can keep beaches in shape by controlling erosion. In Hong Kong, common halophytes include mangroves, such as Kandelia obovata and Aegiceras corniculatum, which develop salt glands and aerial roots for adaptation.
