競爭排除 Competitive exclusion
競爭排除，指出兩個物種不能同時，或者是不能長時間地在同一個生態位生存。因為兩者之間會展開競爭，導致其中的一方獲勝，可以留在原來的生態位繼續生存。而另一方為了繼續生存，會改變自己的居住地／飲食習慣／行為習性（如改日行性為夜行性），進化適應以延續生命。
Competitive exclusion means that two sympatric species cannot coexist in the same ecological niche for a long period of time without one being driven out or becoming extinct because of competition for limited resources. The ''loser'' may have to shift its niche, e.g. altering its diet/ habitat.
