Tai Tam Bay is in the southern part of Hong Kong Island. The area ranging from the lower course of Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir to the bay of around 16 hectares is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, where the only mangrove on Hong Kong Island can be found. The habitats in Tai Tam Bay are mainly intertidal zone and mangrove and the compositions of substrata are sand particles, rubbles and rocks in the upper shore, freshwater streams and lower shore respectively. Different compositions of substrata form different habitats accommodate a diversity of species e.g. fiddler crab, bubbler crab, mudskipper etc.
