Shek O is located in the southeastern part of Hong Kong Island, nearby the bridge linking Shek O Headland and Tai Tau Chau. The northern side is a more sheltered pebbly shore with gentle slope and smaller wave splash. The southern side is a typical exposed rocky shore with strong waves impounding the hard substratum. Basically, most of the common rocky shore organisms can be found in Shek O. During field study, zonation of species along the vertical gradient can be observed and also the difference of community between sheltered shore and exposed shore is worth comparison.
