Luk Keng

生境 Habitats

Site Description

Luk Keng lies close to Sha Tau Kok Frontier Closed Area, in between Pat Sin Leng Country Park and Plover Cove Country Park. As development projects are scarce, Luk Keng retains a lot of different habitats, such as freshwater streams, wetlands and woodlands. Along Fung Hang Family Walk are signs that introduce plants found in the area,

Luk Keng is Hong Kong's largest freshwater swamp area. As there are a large number of streams, pools and pools surrounded by a piece of Fung Shui Woodland, it is an ideal habitat for dragonflies and damselflies. There are over 50 dragonflies species. Also there are around 64 species of butterflies. Close to the coast, there are brackish wetlands and mangroves.

Luk Keng is a country park enclave, facing threats from development. In recent years, the area has been threatened by illegal waste dumping and road development in its freshwater wetlands.
