Lai Chi Chong

生境 Habitats

Site Description

Lai Chi Chong is on the northern side of Shek Uk Shan. It is a major attraction of North and South Coasts of Tolo Channel Geo Area, Hong Kong Global Geopark. There are many types of rocks such as volcaniclastic sedimentary rock, which displays distinctive foldings, faults and bedding structure. Also fossils have been excavated at the site. Therefore, it is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1985.

Visitors can also visit the mangrove habitats along the coast. It is not difficult to find mudflat organisms such as Fiddler Crabs. Near the coasts are also woodlands. They provide shelter for a lot of butterfly species. Around Pak Sha O and Lai Chi Chong, 97 butterfly species have been recorded, including the rare species: Small Yellow Sailor, Albocerulean and Indian Awl King.
